As I said yesterday, I want to introduce you guys to a friend of ours in Meto. He doesn’t speak any english but we’ve spent tons of time with him and he is just an awesome guy.

Say hi to the Chuck Norris of Kenya. Isaiah grew up according to Masai tradition and was a warrior when he was a teenager. Killing a lion is one of the ways you become a warrior, so Isaiah is like a spear wielding superman to us. We call him the terminator because he is normally the one who converts livestock into meat.

Here are a few things you probably didn’t know about Isaiah:

He can throw a spear like a champion. It’s crazy how far he can throw it and he throws a perfect spiral. (seen it, tried it, can’t do it)

He can throw a rock so hard you can hear it whistling through the air. He can also throw a rock so hard at the ground that it makes the noise of a bullet ricocheting off cement. (seen and heard it)

He killed, what everyone said was, a black mamba snake. (I was there for this)

He can start a fire in 8 minutes with two sticks. (Alan just told me this one)

He is the best dancer in Meto. No kidding…he is a dancing machine.

So if you’re ever in Meto, look Isaiah up. You’ll be glad you did.

Peace!

Emery

What an amazing experience that was! Also, at that time the humble foundation for the library had been laid and you could feel that things were really starting to happen in Meto! When I got back from that trip and told all the stories, my wife Rebecca was so bummed out that she wasn’t able to go and be a part of all the good things that were happening in Meto. So that gave me an idea! I started saving some cash and for Christmas last year I seeded a trip for her to go to Meto, Kenya! She was elated to say the least! Major husband points, right? Many other people were generous and gave towards her trip and so the culmination of many months of saving, planning and preparation have her on her way to Meto on a dusty road in a rickety old bus as I type these words. I am so happy for her to have this opportunity – her first time out of the country (if you don’t count Canada, you can’t county Canada right?). Mainly, I am happy because I know that the work in Meto is so important and so good!

Rebecca has the sweetest heart you could ever imagine, she is and has always been a quiet advocate for those with a small voice or no voice at all in this crazy mixed up world. She is tender, and loving, and she is attentive to those around her that just need a little TLC. About a year ago she became vegan, not so much for the health benefits but mostly because of a deep conviction about animal welfare issues. I couldn’t think of a better person to go and represent Integrity Worldwide in Meto. The people there are amazingly kind and generous people, and my experience was one in which I gained much more from them than I felt I was able to give. God’s funny that way, you know? And so the next few days will be magical and tremendous and supernatural in ways that only God could imagine. You can rest assured that in Meto for at least the next few days, good will prevail and God will smile! Everyone involved will be better for it and I believe that in some small but powerful way the whole world is just a little bit better because of the amazing things that will happen in a little small village in the middle of no where down a dusty one lane road. May God bless our loved ones on this trip, Integrity Worldwide, and the beautiful people of Meto, Kenya.

Blessings,

Alan arrived in Kenya a few days ago and has been preparing for the team to arrive. I spoke with him yesterday and he said the mission center is incredible. He actually found a phone that gets decent reception in Meto so we should be able to keep up with the team fairly well now. Alan will meet the team in Nairobi tomorrow night.

Half of the team will meet in Atlanta today at 12:00. This team consists of people from all over the world. It has been really cool to see how God has drawn people with different talents from so many different places. A couple who Alan and Mareike are friends with in Germany decided to go on the trip a few days ago. He (Jens) graduated from German medical school last Saturday. He and his wife (Eva) will be helping with the medical clinics in Meto. That’s pretty incredible! Graduate from medical school and leave a few days later to help people in Kenya. I bet that gets God so excited!

-Update- Mareike just sent me a picture of them.

Jens and Eva

Would you be willing to pray for the trip? If so, leave a comment below and let us know that you’re praying. I’ll pass along the comments to encourage the team.

Thanks for dropping by and check back often.

We were able to get Internet today for a few minutes. So here is a quick update.

God is moving like crazy in Meto!

•	The library is better than we could have imagined and it’s very close to completion. We’ll have lots of pictures when we come back.
•	This area of Kenya is in a major drought, but there has been some rain recently. This past July the land was very dry with almost no vegetation and now there is some green starting to show. The people in Meto that lost most of their herds during the drought can now move their herds back to Meto. Lots of the people that got seeds from us in February are planting it now – they kept it waiting for rain…
•	The local church has doubled in size since we opened the well in July. Lots of the local women come up to us to say thank you over and over again. It hit us that really they are the ones benefiting from the well, because they don’t have to walk 20 miles every day anymore to get some water!
•	Meto is hosting a youth conference starting tonight. Moses is expecting 400 kids and teens to come. Pretty amazing. Please pray that the youth attending the conference will experience God in an incredible way.
•	Everyone on the team is healthy and a little tired:)

We will try to post more pictures (and possibly video) soon.

Peace!
E, H, A and M Hicks
